What a time we had at the 18th Annual Covenant House Capitol Hill Children's Christmas Party for Disadvantaged Children in the District of Columbia at the Cannon House Office Building in the Caucus Room 345. More than 250 children and their chaperones meet Santa and his elves on December 17th. There was an abundance of toys and warm clothing and each child was able to receive one of each for Christmas.
Congresswoman Norton has hosted this wonderful party for Covenant House DC for the less fortunate children in the district for 18 years. This year presented a particular problem because a lot of the more affluent businesses that used to assist the endeavor were not able to assist us this year. But thanks to the many individuals and businesses that came to the forefront we were able to surpass last year's donations and gave gifts to more than 300 children.
A very special thank you goes out to the postmaster Patricia Moore who read a beautiful rendition of the Night Before Christmas. Our thanks to the D.C. Police Department for bringing McGruff to entertain the children and D.C. United's mascot Talon who joined Santa to help celebrate the season
Happy Holidays and many thanks to this year's donors:
Target, Citigroup, Amtrak,WMATA, Verizon, Giant, Safeway, Patton Boggs, Chevy Chase Bank, D.C. Charter Health, CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield, D.C. United and United for D.C., Coca Cola Bottling Company, Fort Lincoln, T-Mobile, Geico, Washington Gas, Toys for Tots, and PEPCO.
A special thank you goes out to the many volunteers that assisted us at the festivities.
